Why does it seem so difficult to make the changes that we want to make in life? Every year, come January 1, millions of people make New Year’s resolutions with good intentions. About ¼ of those people quit before January 7. Only about 9% actually succeed in their New Year’s resolutions. Those are bleak numbers! But the good news is that some DO succeed, and all who apply habits of success can find the same victory in the New Year.
I read one Tweet that said, “Broke my new year’s resolution of being a nicer person but in my defense some of y’all are annoying.” While it’s easy to blame other people and outer circumstances as to why we don’t succeed at resolutions, or at life in general, it’s important that we take a look within ourselves first and see what changes we need to make in our thoughts, feelings, and daily habits. Unfavorable circumstances and negative people have been around much longer than any of us have been alive, yet some people succeed in spite of this fact. Here are some of the reasons that I believe most people do not succeed at the resolutions set at the beginning of the year: (1) Often the goals and intentions are more or less based on the New Year tradition rather than something deeper. (2) The difficulties faced in the pursuit of the goal outweigh the desire for success. (3) We may forget our resolution because focusing on the goal is not yet a daily habit. Out of sight, out of mind.
Habits are important, and if we are to make the changes we desire it all starts with the little things we do every day. I once heard someone say, “If you want to change some things in your life, you have to change some things in your life.” It seems obvious, but the fact is we often don’t think how changing our daily habits can affect our future. The minutes of the day are more important than the years.
Take some time to really ponder who you want to be and what you want to accomplish in 2024. The next step is to write this down and be specific. Have specific dates written next to each goal. Diffuse or apply some Magnify Your Purpose™ or Transformation™ (essential oil blends from Young Living) while you contemplate and write your goals and resolutions. Once you have clearly stated on paper the things you desire, review this statement every day for at least 20 minutes. This keeps your purpose clearly in your mind so that you don’t forget what you are seeking in the New Year. Here are a couple of suggestions when writing your goals: frame your goals in the positive rather than the negative. Instead of saying “I want to lose 20 pounds” say “I am at my ideal weight of ??? pounds by (chosen date).” Rather than saying “I want to be out of debt” say “I have X amount of money by (chosen date).”
In addition to framing these statements in the positive, it’s a good idea to word them in the present tense: “I am…” or “I have…” rather than “I will” or “I will have….” When we affirm something in the future, it will always be just out of our reach. When we affirm in the present, it is just a matter of time for our intentions to manifest. Jesus said, “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:24)
These goals must be something meaningful to you. No one else can choose your resolutions for you. If a goal doesn’t stir the emotions, it will eventually fall by the wayside. Look into the end of 2024… what are the things you’d like to have checked off your list before December 31? Are they deeply significant to you, and do they serve your life purpose? If the answer is yes, then these are worthy goals that you can make into a reality. These are the ones you should write down and review daily. Understand that obstacles always come when pursuing a worthy dream or goal. If we approach with the right attitude, these difficulties can springboard us to success.
Valor™ is a great oil blend to use each day to approach the year with newfound courage and determination. I like to apply a few drops to my shoulders, feet and back of the neck in the morning.
Make your resolutions part of your daily routine. Be intentional, be specific, be passionate. May God bless you in 2024 and all the years beyond.
Make This Your Year of Transformation
By D. Gary Young
From dgaryyoung.com/blog/
D GARY YOUNG BLOG EDITOR’S NOTE: Since Gary Young’s passing, we have been taking stock of the tremendous contributions he made to the world by revisiting his presentations, such as this fascinating blog post series on essential oils as natural remedies, originally published in 2012. This is the first of a two-part series.
[By 2011] we had gone through more than three years of a real economic crisis in the world. Some forecasters were telling us that 2012 was going to be worse. They were saying that more people would be out of work, more homes would be lost, and more businesses would collapse. Those forecasters were preaching a lot of doom and gloom.
However, I looked around me and didn’t see the doom and gloom. We do have a tendency to see what we look for, so I look for excitement; I look for growth; I look for success; and I look for discovery, research, and accomplishments. If you’re busy looking at these things, it’s pretty hard to see the doom and gloom and the economic crisis. They will still affect us, but if we want to transform our lives, then we have to focus on transforming our attitudes; that’s why I chose Transformation for the theme for 2012.
TRANSFORMATIONAL THOUGHTS
Part of that is transforming from the negative aspects of our attitudes and thinking to the positive ones. Now does that mean that the negative thoughts will go away? Not all of them. But they will certainly diminish, and the positive thoughts will become your primary focus. So what you’re focused on will become your reality.
TRANSFORMATIONAL YOUNG LIVING OILS
We have a wonderful oil blend called Transformation. Use this oil blend in a diffuser in your home to set up the frequency for transformation while you write down your goals for the rest of 2012 [2019]—what you want to accomplish, where you want to be with your health, your belief system, your attitude, or your financial condition. Maybe it’s even your marital status or your personal feelings. Just write down where you are now, where you want to be, and what you would like to become through this transformational year. You still have half of the year ahead of you, so start now!
As you are diffusing Transformation, begin to implement a meditation practice—directing energy to the pineal gland and helping it open. You will start to have feelings and thoughts and tap into your intuitive nature and begin to see what can happen in your life. When we look at some of the oils in Transformation, we become excited.
THE POWER OF FRANKINCENSE
First, let’s look at Frankincense. We know the power of Frankincense oil. We know how it supports the immune system, how it helps the lymphatic system, how it cleanses, and how it regenerates. Wow, what a phenomenal oil!
The power of Frankincense is astounding!
SKIN AND SANDALWOOD
Another oil in Transformation that’s so powerful is Sandalwood, which is really beautiful on the skin. I’m going to let Mary tell you about it because she uses it almost every day.
MARY: I absolutely love Sandalwood; I think it’s one of the most beautiful-feeling oils on the skin. It has just the right texture—not too thin and not too thick—and I’ve been using it for years.
I can remember back in 1992 or ’93 before Gary and I were married. I was in my condo looking at the oils on the counter and wondering what it would be like to put oils on my skin, so I just started doing it and never stopped.
Besides Sandalwood, I also use other oils that are similar in viscosity. However, I have found that the oils have natural alcohol, which can be drying to the skin, so I always put Boswellia Wrinkle Cream or ART or one of the creams that we have on top of the oil and have found it to be a perfect combination for my skin.
Sandalwood is an absolutely beautiful oil because of the way it makes you feel, and I just can’t even imagine being without it. Just start experimenting. Try one oil and see how it feels; if you don’t like it, try another one. You might find 5, 10, 15 oils that you like on your skin.
I also love Patchouli and Myrrh, although Gary says Myrrh smells like a dirty sock, and he always says, “Don’t wear it at night.” But I love the feel of it on my skin; it’s wonderful. Just have fun and experiment using the oils and see which ones you like best.
GARY: Thank you, sweetheart. Of course I’m the benefactor; I get to touch and hold and kiss the beautiful skin that she puts those oils on every day. It’s wonderful. All you guys who are listening: Wow! If you didn’t give your wife Sandalwood for Christmas, make that the next special gift.
When I conducted research with Dr. Jaime L. Matta in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1996 on DNA and RNA, Frankincense, Sandalwood, and Balsam Fir were the three oils that were the most powerful for transforming DNA and RNA.
ENCODING IMPROVEMENT
We can start to see the structure of how these oils work in helping to eradicate that bad encoded information. If you say your affirmations in a positive note while you’re breathing in Frankincense or Transformation, it will encode that new information and empower you to go forward and do the things that maybe you have felt unsure of, limited in, insecure about, or whatever. Transformation is a powerful oil blend to help you overcome those limitations.
CARDAMOM: A BRAIN-BOOSTER
Transformation also has Cardamom in it. A lot of times, I’ve been asked, “Why would you put Cardamom in Transformation?” Well, studies suggest that essential oils are extremely powerful in augmenting brain function and increasing the oxygen uptake of the brain.
I believe Cardamom is really powerful in helping to increase the oxygen uptake in the brain and just move you toward a more positive attitude as well.
CLARY SAGE SUPPORT
Clary Sage is also in Transformation. It contains natural phytoestrogens and is a support for normal hormone function. When we become imbalanced, there may be the tendency to feel a little bit depressed, your energy level’s going to be low, and you’re going to feel fatigue early in the afternoon or evening. You’re not going to feel like you want to go out and make one more phone call or one more contact or teach one more meeting, so it will limit your success and the timing of your success.
But if you have normal hormone function, you’re going to have more energy and be more passionate about what you share with new people. Passionate people are like magnets, they just attract people. The more passion you have and the more passion you share, the more people are going to be attracted to you.
Every one of us has been through experiences in life where we’ve been depressed, maybe even been on antidepressants. I speak with a little authority, because I was on the antidepressant Prozac for seven years after my accident in 1973. I know what that’s like, and I know how it leaves you feeling. There’s nothing that makes you want to leave this life quicker than being depressed. When you get in that state, you just lose your whole interest in life, and it doesn’t matter who it is or who’s around you at the time.
So Clary Sage is really supporting to those hormones. It helps you move out of that stage of “feeling the blues” or just lifeless-type feelings. It’s a transformative oil in and of itself.
LEMON BUILDS LEUKOCYTES
We also have Lemon in our Transformation oil blend.
Why would I include Lemon essential oil? Because it has been used by ancient people for cleansing attributes in the body. If your immune system is strong and you’re resisting disease, then you feel stronger physically and more able to go through transformational changes.
TRANSFORM YOUR ENERGY; TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE
When you’re going through transformation, somebody might share a new idea with you, and you might think, “Oh, I can’t quite swallow that.” Do you know what happens when you say, “I can’t quite swallow that” or “I don’t know if I can digest that?” Our negative thoughts impact our physiological bodies and may keep us from success. So when you’re going through a transformation, don’t say, “I can’t digest it” or “I can’t swallow it,” or you are not going to transform.
Transformation just gets you in a better space for looking at new ideas. Many of you may be saying, “I can’t build a home business; I don’t know how to go out and talk to people.” Unless you are unable to speak, you can talk to people. All you have to do is get excited.
When you’re excited about something, you can’t wait to share it with somebody. But when you’re depressed, you don’t have that excitement, so you need to move out of that space.
Be excited! Be your own life coach. Transform your life now and move into great, new dimensions!
Happy New Year! Have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet? The most common ones I know of are improving health, exercise and losing weight. Well, my health tip this month will help you with all of those (except exercise perhaps- you have to motivate yourself to do that!)
I’m sure that you’ve heard about diets, cleanses, blah, blah, blah…. Because there is so much information out there, it is difficult to figure out which one would be the right one for you! I know! I’ve been there!
I’ve discussed these issues with many doctors, chiropractors, friends and just people in general. I’m always open to ideas about how to slim down, get motivated, have more energy and be in complete, overall great health. I’ve found that it is a process, BUT it can be accomplished naturally!
Here are some ideas to consider:
Cleanse your body. That doesn’t mean take a shower, although that’s very important too! All of us are subjected to industrial wastes, herbicides, pesticides, additives, heavy metals and many other potentially harmful chemicals and toxins from our food, cosmetics, air, water, practically anything in our environment! It is recommended that you first perform a colon cleanse, then a liver cleanse, then a parasite cleanse and finally a heavy metal cleanse.
If you decide to go on any cleansing diet, it is important to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water per day, i.e. if you weigh 150 pounds, half of that is 75, so you would need to drink at least 75 ounces (about 7-8 glasses) of water every day. Be sure you are drinking distilled water or purified water without minerals. Also, if you have never been on a cleansing diet before, you should always do so with the direction of a medical professional.
Supplements and essential oils are very important when cleansing. Oils helpful for colon cleansing are: Rosemary, Basil and Fennel. There is also an herbal supplement called Comfortone that is particularly effective in cleansing the colon.
Nutrients helpful in cleansing the liver are: Choline, milk thistle, schizandra and dl-methionine, to name a few, but probably these may be difficult to find. Carrot Seed Oil is well regarded by herbalists for its role in liver cleansing. Also, Ledum, German Chamomile, helichrysum and geranium are great oils to use for liver cleansing.
Almost all of us have parasites in one form or another. Parasites tend to go unnoticed until they begin to cause fatigue and unwellness. Pure essential oils have some of the strongest antiparasitic properties known to man. Some of these include thyme, clove, anise, nutmeg, fennel, Idaho tansy, cumin, ledum and melissa, just to name a few. Young Living has a proprietary supplement called Parafree.
Heavy metals such as lead, mercury and cadmium can wreak havoc and cause severe damage to our bodies! They can disrupt normal functions, causing allergic reactions, fatigue, headaches, muscle pains, digestive disturbance, dizziness, depression and mental confusion. Heavy metal toxins tend to accumulate in the brain, kidneys, nerves, immune system and fatty tissues. It has been found that herbs such as astragalus, garlic, sarsaparilla and red clover can bind heavy metals so they can be expelled from the body. Essential oils can also naturally dissolve insoluble heavy metal salts so that they can be eliminated. Young Living once had a tincture called Chelex that helped in eliminating heavy metals from the body, but no longer has this product available. Rehemogen Tincture may help in eliminating heavy metals.
Once you have completed your cleansing program, you will want to continue performing regular cleanses for maintenance purposes.
This is a lot of information, I know! If you’re interested in learning more about the essential oils or cleanses, contact your nearest Young Living Brand Partner or you may contact CARE at: 1-800-758-8629.
One final suggestion: I always enjoy finding healthy recipes either online or from friends or acquaintances. Here is one I found recently that is a natural “fat-burner”! It’s a soup that is very healthy! First you begin with a basic bone broth (recipe below). Then you use that bone broth in a Minestrone soup.
I wish you many blessings for this new year! May all of your dreams and resolutions come true! We look forward to seeing you in one of our many CARE classes this year! Blessings!

2024 is here, and it is another year to experience new and exciting things! For the last few years, my family has made vision boards with our individual goals and prayers. Admittedly, I put on way more than I actually accomplish, but it is a beautiful time reflecting on the different goals we did get to fulfill. Each year, we also choose a guiding Scripture verse, and this past year’s was from Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” This is one of my favorite verses, and it keeps me grounded in many areas of my life. One of which has been my role as a CARE Instructor.
I was introduced to the world of Young Living Essential Oils and the amazing Raindrop Technique at a homeschool convention, where I met Karen Hopkins at a booth for Growing Healthy Homes and purchased a copy of “Nutrition 101: Choose Life.” This curriculum intrigued me because at that time, I was a mom of two young boys and my own mom was recently diagnosed with a debilitating illness. I believed there was something more when it came to health after being dissatisfied with the traditional medical system and spent many days praying for natural options. I had so many questions and doubts, but each of my concerns were addressed, and I decided to take a chance.
One of my favorite books is “Healing Oils of the Bible” by Dr. David Stewart. Through this book, I grew in awe and appreciation for what God provides through His creation. Examining the many uses of botanicals in Scripture is just further evidence of His care and love for us. For 13 years now, my family has been using Young Living oils and products to support our overall wellness. My education through CARE played an impactful role in understanding the many benefits of essential oils. I reflect on the first time I observed Raindrop being administered, and I remember thinking to myself, “I need to learn that.” I wanted to be able to provide it for just my family and friends, but I had no intention of going beyond that.
With each step of the CARE CCI process, I found myself taking the next step, then the next, and in 2015, I became a Fully Certified CARE Instructor (FCCI). It is such a privilege to not only teach all the courses offered in a CARE Intensive, but also to act as a mentor and supervisor for those who are seeking to provide Raindrop as a service or becoming a CARE Instructor. I learn just as much from my students because the time we spend together is always enriched by the many stories and testimonies we share with one another. I am grateful for what Dr. David and Lee Stewart established, and it was such a blessing to learn under Dr. Stewart. One of my fondest memories was when I was 8 months pregnant with my 3rd child, and I attended the Advanced Emotional Release Seminar. Dr. Stewart gifted me with a stack of books on natural child-birthing that he had published and during the certificate presentation gave a special one to “Baby Hervey.”
My three children are all involved in sports, so most of my days are spent driving them to trainings and games. They are also homeschooled, so there are different classes and activities we participate in during the week. Since I am on the go a lot, the must have oils in my purse include Young Living Deep Relief, PanAway, Peppermint, Trauma Life, Geranium, Lavender, Valor, and DiGize. When I am recharging at home, you will find me binge watching shows with my husband, solving crossword puzzles, or doing my Bible study lessons.
I schedule CARE Intensives approximately once a quarter primarily in the Houston and Los Angeles areas. My 2024 Intensives can be found on the CARE Calendar, with the next one scheduled for February 16-18 in Willis, TX. It is a blessing to be a part of the CARE family, and my prayer is that many who are seeking natural health options will take the time to attend our Intensives and discover the many benefits of essential oils as used in Vitaflex, Emotional Release, Raindrop Technique, and anointing and prayer. God has been faithful as He has directed me along this path, and I am grateful for the many experiences to witness how essential oils have changed lives for the better. Have a beautiful and oil filled 2024!!
Raindrop Messenger RECIPES
Basic Paleo Bone Broth
½ -1 lb bones (your choice of free-range chicken, beef, bison, or wild-caught fish)
1 T apple cider vinegar
Your choice of keto-friendly vegetables (only if not using in other soup recipes)
Place the bones into a slow cooker, and cover with cold water. You can roast the bones beforehand to make a darker broth. (Preheat the oven to 350°F, and roast until brown)
Add the apple cider vinegar. (If making a basic broth for other soup recipes, end here and simply simmer as directed below.)
Add your choice of vegetables. This could be fresh chopped herbs, pepper, garlic, onions, or anything you like.
Place a lid over the pot and let simmer. Skim any particles or foam from the broth’s surface while cooking. For chicken and fish bone broth, a minimum 4 hour cook time is necessary. Beef and bison bone broth will be ready in a minimum of 6 hours.*
*Note: We recommend cooking the broth anywhere between 24-48 hours. The longer you cook it, the more collagen will be extracted from the bones.
Beef Minestrone Soup
2 T avocado oil
1 lb stew beef
½ cup onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, peeled and diced
1 cup celery stalks, diced
1 (28-oz) canned diced tomatoes
2 cups kale, chopped
2 T tomato paste
4 cups beef bone broth
1 cup green beans, snipped and cut
1 cup zucchini, diced
1 cup cabbage shredded
1 cup bell pepper, diced
2 T Italian herb blend
1½ t salt
1 t pepper
Add 2 tablespoons of avocado oil to a heavy bottom pot and turn the heat on to medium-high.
Add the stewing beef that’s been cut into smaller chunks, and brown in batches if necessary. Add the onion, garlic, and celery, and continue to cook for 3-4 minutes or until the onion is soft and translucent.
While this is cooking, prepare the kale. Wash it thoroughly and remove the leaves from the stems. Roughly chop it.
Put the low-sodium beef broth, a whole 28-ounce can of diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and kale into the pot with the beef, and onions.
Simmer over low heat, covered, for about 20 minutes or until the beef is tender. Add the remaining veggies and your favorite Italian seasoning blend, and simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes. Season with 1½ teaspoons of salt and ½ teaspoon of pepper, or to taste. Serve with a sprinkle of nutritional yeast flakes and dig in!
