If you are an aromatherapy educator, you have probably been asked the question “What oil should I use for this condition?” by clients, friends and family. You may even ponder this question for yourself if you are meeting a personal health challenge. There are several ways that we may try to find the answers. But what is the best approach to finding the right oil for a particular condition?
The first thing most of us might do is check in books written by experts in aromatherapy such as “Essential Oils: The Complete Home Reference” or “Essential Oils Desk Reference.” We may even try Google for the answers. What we will find from these resources is a plethora of possible essential oils to use for any one condition. Just as an example, if you look up “arthritis” in the “Essential Oils Desk Reference,” you will find over 30 essential oil singles and blends that may be beneficial, not to mention recommended supplements! So, which one is the “right” one? Is it one of the oils listed in the books or should you use another oil that maybe a friend recommended?
Many people might look for answers by scanning with devices such as iTOVi or Zyto, which detect signals from the body. The software will then give recommendations as to which oils and/or supplements should be implemented.
Another way might be a little more complicated. We could learn essential oil chemistry and have a thorough understanding of what compounds are dominant in various oils, learn how those compounds tend to support the body, and then make a decision based on this information. This can be a complex system to understand, however. For example, we may be looking for an oil that is high in phenols because we understand the cleansing and antiseptic power of these special compounds. What we might forget is the fact that there are hundreds of other chemical compounds in any given essential oil, and when compounds are in the company of others, they can often behave very differently than they would by themselves. But it is still very valuable to have a good understanding of essential oil chemistry for this purpose.
Chemistry of Essential Oils Made Simple – Whether you have a background in chemistry or not, you will understand and enjoy this book. It will enlighten and entertain you while demonstrating, by the chemistry of essential oils, that God’s power and divine nature can be seen through the things he has made. (Romans 1:20) Based…

And yet another method for choosing the right essential oil is to do so instinctively and/or intuitively. If you are a dog or a cat owner, you may have observed your pet nibbling on grass. Though the evidence is not conclusive, many studies of this behavior point to animals “self-medicating” upset stomach, or perhaps addressing nutritional deficiencies, or eating plants that help eliminate parasites. This behavior has not only been observed in dogs and cats, but also in bears, deer, elk, primates, and reptiles. Some lizards that have been bitten by venomous snakes have been studied for their instinct to eat certain roots that help counteract the snake venom.
So, can we humans also access this type of “knowing” when it comes to self-healing? Of course we can! Perhaps it is more difficult for us than it is for animals because we have so many thoughts running around in our heads, we have prejudices about what will help us, or warped thinking from trauma, etc. Instinct is inborn, though not always easy to access. As for intuition, we all may have varying degrees of this God-given gift, but it is something that can be developed with intention and practice (to learn more about developing intuition, read the article “Intuitive Decision Making” by David Stewart in the archives of the Raindrop Messenger, vol. 7, no. 6.) True intuition is of a spiritual nature, being the “still, small voice” of God. With God’s grace, spiritual practice and discipline we can perceive the right answers through the Kingdom of God that is within us (Luke 17:21).
Though I find the external resources such as books, online info, advice from experts, and scanning to be invaluable, the ultimate source for answers is within one’s own body and spirit. As we were created in the Divine image, we have access to the answers to any health challenge that may confront us.
Scripture says, “Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.” (Philippians 4:6.) Perhaps the most difficult part of finding the God-given answers is to still the mind from worry and scattered thoughts. Worry creates static that makes it difficult to perceive the still small voice of God. But with faith it can be done! Once you have prayed, relax and trust that the answers will come when needed. I remember the method my dad (David Stewart) used for selecting the right essential oils. Before going to bed, he would sit and meditate upon God’s presence, and pray for the answers, having faith that the answers would come to him. Usually upon waking, he would find the oils he was looking for just quietly sitting in his thoughts.
Another method I like to use after stillness and prayer is to simply close my eyes and let my hand browse over some of my oil bottles and wait until I feel a slight “tug” towards an oil. This has proved very effective in selecting the right oils for me and others at the time when needed. Some people do muscle testing, which is another way of intuitively accessing the body’s needs at the time (there is a great section on muscle testing in the book Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils by Carolyn Mein.)
In selecting essential oils for yourself and others, it is important to become familiar with these special plant extracts. Like people, each oil has a unique set of gifts and characteristics. Study the books written by the experts and learn from others that are experienced with using oils. Research the unique chemistry of essential oils. Learn how essential oils can impact our emotions, and how emotions can be tied to our physical conditions. Practice using your oils so that you can become familiar with their unique personalities and benefits. Start making it a habit to commune with God who created both the essential oils and you! When we establish that beautiful connection with our Creator, we will always be led to the right answers.
CCI Summit 2024: Monday, July 22, 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
This year CARE’s Advanced Bible Oils and CCI Summit will take place at the Crystal Inn Hotel & Suites in Salt Lake City, Utah following Young Living Convention!
Advanced Bible Oils(open to all) is taught by Anthony Stewart, FCCI and is a wonderful in-depth review of essential oils and practices of the ancient Hebrews and early Christians in scripture. We will also discuss the rich history of the Bible and learn how to study scripture in such a way that it will enrich your experience. We will go through the entire History of Anointing and Laying on of Hands (HAL; formerly Healing Oils of the Bible) class as presented by CARE along with Q and A. One of the focal points of this class is to educate CARE Instructors on how to teach HAL, but there is much more information presented that is useful to anyone who has an interest in the Bible and essential oils.
Part of the class’s intent is to introduce unusual situations in which you may find yourself when teaching HAL. For example, you may have attendees who are not of a Judeo-Christian heritage, and who do not consider the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) and/or the New Testament their scriptures, which can be challenging. A brief description of many religions will be given along with what to expect. We will also look at the history of the Bible, and how it developed over the millennia into its present form, among many other fascinating topics!
Advanced Bible Oils is required for all new CCIs who have not yet taken this class. CARE Interns (CIs) are welcome to attend and fulfill this requirement before becoming a CCI. This class is also open to the public upon registration. It is recommended, but not required, that participants complete CARE’s History of Anointing and Laying on of Hands before attending.
Repeat students of Advanced Bible Oils may attend at half price.
Advanced Bible Oils is approved for 8 CE Hours through NCBTMB.
CCI Summit(must be a CI, CCI or above to be eligible) is open to all CCIs and above, and also CARE Interns. Summit is a time for us to gather together to learn, grow, discuss, network, make new friends and reconnect with old friends. We will have special speakers, hands-on experiences, check each other’s Raindrop and Vitaflex skills, learn how to relate with students, and more.

Acid Reflux and the Monster of Stomach Issues
When I was a kid, growing up, I remember all of the ads on TV about Pepto Bismal and how it helps with indigestion or upset stomachs.
It wasn’t until much later in my life that doctors began referring to this ailment as “Acid Reflux!” When I first heard of Acid Reflux, I thought, {“Man, they just want to give a name to a common ailment so they can sell their new prescription drugs!”} And that is so true!
If you notice, in today’s society, when a new prescription drug is available, often it is accompanied by a new ailment or a new name for an ailment that has been around for years! Interesting!
Well, we DO acknowledge, that Heartburn, Indigestion, Upset Stomach (now known as Acid Reflux) exists in a huge number of us these days! Nexium is probably the most commonly prescribed drug for this long-time malady! Prilosec OTC is probably the most common over-the-counter remedy for this malady. But what do these medicines actually do to us? Upon closer inspection, they neutralize the acids in our stomach so that we don’t have flare-ups or upset stomachs. They seem to work for most people…. They do their job quite well. However, we actually NEED to have these natural acids in our stomachs in order to properly digest our food! So, neutralizing the acids causes poor or improper digestion which can cause OTHER stomach and digestion problems!
WOW! It’s a double-edged sword! So, what can we do? Our digestive system is really THE most essential process in our bodies. Our bodies rely on a constant source of Vital Energy (Called the Vital Force) in order to maintain health. We receive this “natural energy” through fresh air that we breathe and through the digestion of nutritious, healthy, foods that we eat. When our digestive system is compromised, (as it tends to be when we take prescription drugs or eat foods that are not nutritious or healthy) our bodies are not able to digest the nutritious, healthy foods that we do eat, therefore, we are unable to liberate the vital force within this food, and, therefore, our natural energy is low. When our natural energy declines, we are even MORE unable to digest things properly! It’s a vicious cycle that our bodies begin to circulate. So when you hear practitioners or doctors express the importance of “taking care of your gut,” HEED THEIR WORDS!
Here are some tips.
ONE ESSENTIAL thing that you can do EVERY morning when you wake up is drink 3 cups (24 ounces) of cool, pure water on an empty stomach. Do this as soon as you rise in the morning! Be sure it is cool water, not warm or hot. You don’t want to drink ice water either…. Just cool (room temperature, or perhaps slightly cooler). If water is too cold or you put ice in it, what happens is it shocks your body and suspends all of your stomach activity! However, room temperature or slightly cooler water will stimulate the stomach activity and encourage and promote healthy operations…
So why not warm or hot water? Warm or hot water tends to relax the stomach and other organs, therefore slowing their operations completely. This activity in the morning should be performed 45 minutes to an hour BEFORE eating any food. If you eat food prior to allowing the cool water to “do its job” then you will not receive any of its great effects! This cool water technique will stimulate the stomach muscles and lining, as well as all of your other bodily organs.
It will help cleanse your body, reduce acids formed from fermented foods in your stomach, it will also serve as a natural laxative, gently helping foods to process completely and sending them all the way down to your descending colon! If you can begin by performing this one task every day, you will see a world of difference. However, throughout the day, it is essential that you drink AT LEAST ½ of your body weight in ounces of water. For example, if you weigh 200 pounds, you need to drink AT LEAST 100 ounces of water every day! If your digestive system is working at its peak performance, you should have 2-3 bowel movements daily with ease.
Of course, eating a non-inflammatory diet will also help in healing your digestive system. There are also some herbal supplements that you can take that will help, as well as some essential oils that might aid in the healing process. There are herbal cleanses that you can do that would help in “resetting” the bodily functions and allow them to work at their optimal levels.
For more information about some of these supplements, essential oils or cleanses that might help you along your journey, contact your nearest Young Living Brand Partner or contact the CARE Office at: 1-800-758-8629. Here’s to your health and wellness!
Can God’s existence be scientifically proven? In this treatise Dr. David Stewart thoroughly explores this question with a depth of understanding. Being both a scientist and a theologian he was always intrigued by how these two fields related to one another. In this booklet David explores the connection between God and science, and the possible…

Featured Instructor: Kristi Zittle , FCCI
Hello! I’m Kristi Zittle! I’m a fully certified C.A.R.E. instructor with a strong passion for learning and sharing knowledge in a fun and easy-to-understand manner. I was introduced to Raindrop in Claremore, Oklahoma, through the teachings of Carrie McVige and Curtis Eastin shortly after joining Young Living. Initially, I took the training to help my 14-year-old daughter with atypical migraines. However, witnessing how Emotional Release transformed my own life, made me realize that everyone should learn these techniques and information.
As an instructor for C.A.R.E., I’ve traveled to various parts of the world, including Canada, South America, Australia, and several countries in Asia, to teach. I have helped hundreds of students over the years and have also served as a mentor and champion for those aiming for certification and instructor status. I greatly value connection and community, and I cherish the family-like atmosphere among the Stewart’s and all current and past C.A.R.E. instructors.
Having been a retired midwife, I’ve admired David and Lee when they were recognized for their pioneering work in the home birth community back in 2010. The opportunity to work alongside them in this ministry was something I couldn’t turn down. I feel honored and humbled to be one of the instructors chosen by Anthony and Lora Lee to be part of their team.
With around 75 classes, 80+ Passing Return Demonstrations, 22 mentees, and supporting 10 of those to become C.A.R.E. instructors, I remain humbled by the chance to serve in such a life-changing role. I often joke with my students that I’m like Carbon – needy with four hands always trying to connect with others (If you haven’t taken C.A.R.E.’s Chemistry of Essential Oils class or read the book, it’s very enlightening, inspirational and filled with valuable information). Reflecting on my service with C.A.R.E., it seems that my need and love for connection have not only served me well but are also helping me become the lighthouse that God said I would be during that Claremore, OK C.A.R.E. training and emotional release.
