Developing Gratitude for All Around Success

Anthony Stewart, FCCI, Executive Director

By Anthony Stewart, FCCI, Executive Director

“In everything give thanks…”

– I Thessalonians 5:18

As Thanksgiving rolls around, many Americans turn their minds toward gratitude. Of course, you don’t have to live in the US to develop an attitude of thankfulness. But Thanksgiving can be a great reminder of the importance of gratitude.

While some may think of gratitude as nothing more than a social nicety, or an expected sentiment when someone gives something to us, gratitude has some very practical benefits. Psychologists and others have done numerous studies on the mental and emotional effects of developing gratitude by specific exercises. Some of these activities included writing letters of appreciation on a weekly basis, taking a daily and written inventory of blessings, saying thank you to someone daily, etc. Some studies showed that when we give and receive gratitude, our brain releases dopamine and serotonin, two important neurotransmitters responsible for our emotions. Gratitude is a natural anti-depressant. And while these two brain chemicals are vital to our mood and “feeling good,” they also play an important role in how our body functions and overall health. Gratitude has been shown to reduce pain, improve sleep quality, release and replace toxic emotions, reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. The Mindful Awareness Research Center of UCLA claims that gratitude changes the neural structures in the brain, making us feel happier and more content.

Many authors and success gurus emphasize the significance of gratitude, even in the midst of hardship and failure, for all-around success. In his famous book “Think and Grow Rich”, which was written over 80 years ago, Napoleon Hill speaks about the vibrations of our thoughts and feelings, and how we magnetize to ourselves outer conditions that resonate with these thoughts and feelings.

When our thoughts and feelings are those of thankfulness, we can more readily attract and accept goodness into our lives. This can come in the form of mental and emotional health, bodily vitality, spiritual satisfaction, and material abundance. When I read John’s telling of Jesus feeding the multitude of 5,000 with only five barley loaves and two fish (John 6:1-14), I’ve always noticed that Jesus gave thanks… even for a meager food supply that couldn’t possibly feed a multitude. You may already know that the story goes that when the bread and fish were distributed to the crowd of 5,000, everyone had more than enough to eat; so much so that the leftovers filled twelve baskets. While this was indeed a miracle, I also believe that Jesus was, at least in part, demonstrating the power of gratitude, and how it can multiply our blessings.

Essential oils can play a valuable part in facilitating a grateful heart. Young Living’s Gratitude™ blend has oils of Balsam Canada, frankincense, coriander, myrrh, ylang ylang, bergamot, Northern Lights Black Spruce, vetiver, and geranium; all of which are intended to foster feelings of gratitude within. It can be diffused, or you can apply a few drops over your heart. In Carolyn Mein’s book Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils, it suggests using ledum essential oil (available from Young Living), applying a few drops over the spleen (or corresponding reflex points) to shift from feelings of ungratefulness to gratitude. When we smell essential oils, these aromatic molecules go directly to the limbic brain, where emotions are processed. This is why oils are such a powerful tool for helping us to shift our emotions.

In addition to using these powerful oils, it’s a good idea to do some exercises that keep the mind in gratitude mode. We can keep a journal of two or three things we are thankful for each day; spend a few minutes upon waking and before going to bed simply thinking about things and people that make us feel gratitude. Remember that we can be thankful for God’s blessings even before we see them manifest physically. Remember that even in trying circumstances there is always something for which we can thank God. It is to our mental, emotional, spiritual and physical benefit to rid the mind of resentment, anxiety, fear, and hurt, and to replace those feelings with gratitude and its close relatives of love, forgiveness, and hope.

What would happen if we were thankful for abundance and prosperity before we could see it physically manifest? What would happen if we were to take 5-10 minutes a day counting our blessings and making an effort to be thankful? Start today fostering a grateful heart and look at the instant and long-term results. May you have a blessed Thanksgiving and an abundant rest of the year.

“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”

– II Corinthians 9:15

Health Tip:

from Lora Lee Stewart, FCCI

Hello everyone! It is the month of Thanksgiving, and the month many of us are preparing for some pretty cold temperatures! Last month, we discussed the benefits of Elderberries, and how they can help us during cold and flu season by supporting and boosting our immune system. This month we’re exploring Ginger and Garlic. These two “G’s” are quite a force of nature! Therefore, we will call them our “G-Forces”. They have long been used in traditional medicines to support immune health along with many other health issues.

Let’s take a brief look at these:

Ginger

Ginger Raindrop Messenger November 2023

Ginger, known for its pungent and spicy flavor, has been cherished for centuries not only as a culinary spice but also for its numerous health benefits. This humble root, often used in various culinary dishes, as a tea, or even in medicinal forms, offers a wide range of advantages for your well-being. Let’s explore the many benefits of ginger and why you should consider incorporating it into your daily life.

Digestive Aid:
One of ginger’s most well-known benefits is its ability to aid digestion. It can help alleviate various digestive issues, such as indigestion, bloating, and nausea. Ginger works by stimulating the production of digestive enzymes, which can help improve the absorption of essential nutrients from your food.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties:
Ginger contains potent anti-inflammatory compounds, such as gingerol, which can help reduce inflammation in the body. This makes it a valuable addition to your diet, especially if you suffer from conditions like arthritis, muscle pain, or chronic inflammation.

Immune System Booster:
Ginger is rich in antioxidants that can strengthen your immune system. Regular consumption of ginger may help your body fight off infections and reduce the severity and duration of colds and flu.

Nausea and Morning Sickness Relief:
For centuries, ginger has been used to relieve nausea and morning sickness. It’s a safe and natural remedy for pregnant women who may experience morning sickness during pregnancy.

Pain Relief:
Ginger’s anti-inflammatory properties can also provide relief from pain, making it a popular choice for people experiencing headaches, menstrual cramps, and muscle soreness. Some studies suggest that ginger may be as effective as over-the-counter pain medications in some cases.

Cardiovascular Health:
Research indicates that ginger may have a positive impact on heart health. It can help lower blood pressure and reduce cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of heart disease.

Weight Management:
Ginger can aid in weight management by promoting a feeling of fullness and reducing hunger. It can also increase the thermic effect of food, meaning it can help you burn more calories during digestion.

Antioxidant Power:
Ginger is loaded with antioxidants that help protect your body from oxidative stress, which can lead to various chronic diseases and premature aging.

Improved Brain Function:
Some studies suggest that ginger may enhance brain function and protect against age-related cognitive decline. It may also help reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases.

Anti-Cancer Potential:
While more research is needed, some studies have shown that ginger may have potential in preventing and slowing the growth of cancer cells. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties may play a role in this.

Ginger is much more than just a flavorful spice; it’s a powerhouse of health benefits. From digestive aid to its potential in reducing the risk of chronic diseases, ginger is a versatile ingredient that can be incorporated into your daily diet easily. Whether you choose to enjoy it in your meals, brew it as a soothing tea, or take it in supplement form, ginger can be a valuable addition to your health and wellness routine. So, why not start reaping the rewards of this remarkable root today?

Garlic

Garlic Raindrop Messenger November 2023

Garlic, a pungent and versatile ingredient, has been a staple in culinary traditions for centuries. Beyond its flavorful contribution to various dishes, garlic offers a treasure trove of health benefits. From boosting your immune system to reducing the risk of chronic diseases, this humble bulb is a true powerhouse of goodness. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the incredible benefits of garlic and explore why it should be a regular addition to your diet.

A key compound in Garlic that provides its health-supporting properties is Allicin.

Immune System Booster:
Garlic is renowned for its immune-boosting properties. It contains allicin, a sulfur compound with potent antibacterial and antiviral effects. Regular consumption of garlic can help strengthen your immune system and make you more resilient to common illnesses like the cold and flu.

Heart Health:
Garlic is a heart-healthy food that can help lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It has been shown to reduce blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, and improve blood circulation. These benefits can significantly decrease the chances of heart attacks and strokes.

Antioxidant Powerhouse:
Garlic is rich in antioxidants, which play a vital role in protecting your cells from damage caused by free radicals. Antioxidants can help slow down the aging process and reduce the risk of chronic diseases like cancer.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties:
Chronic inflammation is a leading factor in the development of many diseases. Garlic’s anti-inflammatory properties can help combat this issue and reduce the risk of conditions such as arthritis.

Cancer Prevention:
Several studies have suggested that garlic may have cancer-fighting properties. Its active compounds may help inhibit the growth of cancer cells, particularly in the case of stomach and colorectal cancers. While more research is needed, adding garlic to your diet can be a proactive step in reducing cancer risk.

Detoxification:
Garlic aids in the body’s detoxification process by supporting the liver in breaking down toxins and promoting their elimination from the body. This makes it a valuable addition to any detox or cleansing regimen.

Improved Digestion:
Garlic can also benefit your digestive system by promoting healthy gut bacteria and reducing the risk of gastrointestinal infections. It can help alleviate symptoms of indigestion and bloating.

Skin and Hair Health:
Garlic’s antioxidant properties can contribute to healthier, glowing skin and hair. It can help combat acne, and when applied topically, garlic-infused oils can promote hair growth.

Natural Antibiotic:
Garlic has been used as a natural antibiotic for centuries. While it may not replace prescribed antibiotics for serious infections, it can help combat minor bacterial and viral infections.

Weight Management:
Garlic can aid in weight management by increasing metabolism and promoting feelings of fullness. Including garlic in your diet can be a valuable tool for those looking to shed a few pounds.

Garlic is not just a flavorful addition to your dishes; it’s a versatile and potent ingredient that offers a multitude of health benefits. From boosting your immune system and promoting heart health to fighting inflammation and reducing cancer risk, garlic is a true superfood. So, go ahead and embrace this golden bulb, and make it a regular part of your diet to enjoy a healthier and more vibrant life.

While doing my research for this month’s article, I found a fabulous soup recipe that can be used all year round for immune support and overall health. The recipe that was found from a company called: 1MD Nutrition is at the bottom of this edition.

Hello! I’m Bernadette Williams, a Lifetime CARE Instructor and a Master AromaSounds Instructor. My lovely little sister introduced me to Young Living Essential Oils in October of 2007. I was skeptical, as most people are, due to my negative experience with essential oils in the 1970s, but I was blown away the first time I smelled the YL oils!  That was at a point when I was contemplating what I wanted to do for the rest of my life and it led me to discovering Raindrop Technique! In May of 2008 I attended Dr. Stewart’s first class ever taught on the Young Living Mona, Utah, farm! That is when my life made a 180 degree change!

On my journey to becoming a CARE Instructor, I met so many people who influenced my life in wonderful ways! Gary Young’s essential oil teachings and those of Dr. Stewart helped me to acknowledge my love of teaching! Another of those people is Dr. Christi Bonds-Garrett who loves and respects Dr. Stewart and Dr. Gary Young’s work so much that she expanded on it to create Vibrational Raindrop Technique (VRT) in 2011. I feel so blessed that I have worked with her since the beginning of VRT and I cannot begin to describe the joy I feel when I see students build on the teachings that CARE gives them to incorporate the additional benefits of tuning forks to the technique. I believe that CARE’s trainings are a wonderful foundation for any work utilizing essential oils! The Chemistry of Essential Oils class is very unique and you will have a hard time finding any class like it anywhere!

A fond memory I have is of Dr. Stewart teaching the Chemistry of Essential Oils class at the Intensive I attended in 2008. At one point during the class he pointed at me and said, “You are going to teach this class one day!” I was a bit shocked by that but I went on to read his Chemistry book cover to cover twice and I have been teaching the class now for 12 years! Dr. Stewart really did make Chemistry simple!!!

I live in the most beautiful place on the planet: in White Salmon, WA, in the magnificent Pacific NW!  I have a lovely office next to our home where I work with clients and teach classes. In our community, we can experience any activity that you can do outside! In the summers, people wind and kite surf, hike, paddle board, cycle, and whitewater kayak and raft. My husband loves to take me white water rafting on trips that take between 4 and 18 days. We have rafted the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon multiple times, the Rogue River in southern Oregon, and the Salmon Rivers in Idaho almost every year where Gary Young grew up. We have also rafted 3 of the major rivers in Costa Rica! In the winters we like to ski and snow shoe.

I feel so blessed to be a part of the CARE family and to have experienced it’s many transitions over the years. Through all of the changes and growth, the one thing that has remained consistent is the love and connection shared between each other! All the Instructors and the CARE Staff are amazing people. Attending a CARE Intensive is a life changing experience and I encourage everyone to find a class in your area and be ready to receive on every level: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual!!! Please check out the CARE calendar under the “Education” menu at raindroptraining.com, or the Instructor Directory, to see the class offerings.

You can also view my offerings on my website, butterflyessentials.com, under the “Trainings” menu. I teach CARE classes and Raindrop Harmonic classes throughout the US and abroad.

I wish you all a very happy and healthy Holiday Season!

In gratitude,

Bernadette Williams, LCCI, MASI, CRHS-AP, CAC

Sauté on low heat for a few minutes.

Add stock and continue to boil all the ingredients. Stir gently until all the ingredients become very soft. Add the chili pepper last and stir for another five minutes.
